NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — A great-grandma in North Fort Myers is being praised for her quick thinking during a fire Friday night.

The 80-year-old woman picked a lock to get her great grandson out of a burning room.

This comes after a fire broke out at her home on Jolly road.

The boy's mother, Daymi Giron, says he's autistic and was playing with something that accidentally sparked the blaze.

"She saved his life and I am so grateful to her. That woman is gold, she is gold," said Giron.

Giron's brother was also in the home at the time of the fire.

He cut his arm trying to break a window to escape, but is expected to be okay.

The North Fort Myers Fire Department says the official cause of this fire is still under investigation.
