NORTH PORT, Fla. — A 51-year-old North Port man was charged late Saturday following a shooting that left another man dead.

Modero Cruz was taken to the Sarasota County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 call around 9 a.m. Saturday at the Grande Court Apartments off Greenwood Avenue.

Investigators found 43-year-old Dylan James Baker dead of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Witnesses told police there had been an argument between the two men. The police narrative states Cruz walked to his room, loaded a single bullet into a 9mm pistol, walked back to Baker's room and shot him.

Baker had crawled towards the front door of the apartment, where he died.
