Cape Coral teen critically injured while riding bike early Thursday

**UPDATE (12:45PM)** -- Police say a 13-year-old Cape Coral boy is fighting for his life after he was hit by a truck early Thursday.

According to Cape Coral Police, the boy was riding a bicycle eastbound on Hancock Bridge Parkway just before 6 a.m. and began to cross Del Prado Boulevard into the path of the northbound pickup truck.

The truck hit the boy's right side, propelling him and the bicycle onto the hood.  The bicycle landed in the road 157 feet from the impact, and the boy came to a rest 217 feet from the impact site.

The truck's driver pulled into a parking lot and called 911.

Witnesses tell police the truck had a green light as it entered the intersection.

The boy was trauma alerted to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police say the boy was wearing dark clothes with no helmet and no lights on the bike when the crash happened in the pre-dawn hours.

**UPDATE (10:30AM)** -- Police say the intersection of Del Prado Boulevard and Hancock Bridge Parkway has fully re-opened after Thursday morning's crash.

Still no word on the condition of the victim.

We'll update as we learn more.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A serious crash with injuries is causing road blockage in the northbound lanes of Del Prado Boulevard in Cape Coral Thursday morning.

The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. at the intersection with Hancock Bridge Parkway.

Police say all northbound traffic on Del Prado is being re-routed at the scene.

A mangled bicycle is in the road at the scene.

The Fox 4 crew at the scene says a white pickup truck with front end damage sits about a 1/4 mile away from the scene, and is connected to the crash.

Drivers should avoid the intersection if possible for the next several hours.
