LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The State Attorney's Office has cleared a Fort Myers Police officer in the shooting of a suspect last year.
Officer Matthew Zarillo fired on Wisner Desmaret the night of July 21, 2018, shortly after Desmaret stole Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller's gun and shot the officer in the head according to the report.
Demaret fled that scene and ran to a convenience store, where he reportedly pointed a handgun at officers. Officer Zarillo shot and injured Desmaret before taking him into custody.
Thursday, the State Attorney's Office says that investigators found Zarillo's use of deadly force justifiable and no criminal charges will be filed.
Jobbers-Miller later died from his injuries. Desmaret remains in custody, awaiting trial.
