LEE COUNTY, Fla. – One driver died in a crash near a school bus in Estero on Wednesday.

It happened at 7:50 a.m. on Tamiami Trail near Commons Way, just south of Corkscrew Road.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, two southbound trucks collided when one swerved to avoid hitting cars that had stopped behind a school bus.

Following the collision, one of the trucks crossed the median and hit a northbound car.

The driver of the car, 59-year-old David Martindale of Naples, was taken to Lee Memorial, where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers also tell Fox 4 that the driver of one of the trucks does have a prior violation for failing to stop for a school bus.

The crash is still under investigation.
