FORT MYERS, Fla. — Six people are hospitalized after a fatal crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office first posted about the crash to X, noting it happened at the intersection of Winkler Road and Sunset Vista Drive.
The Florida Highway Patrol then reported, a woman driving south on Winkler Road (south of Averly Street) crossed a double yellow painted center line, into the northbound lane, in an effort to pass another car, just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
However, the driver hit another car head-on.
The two crashed, and the first driver's car flipped into a ditch. She died at the scene.
All six people in the second car were hospitalized, Troopers said. That includes the driver (a 37-year-old woman), a 37-year-old man in the passenger's seat, a 17-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy, a 10-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl.
The crash is still under investigation.
