FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Highway Patrol says one person has died after an early morning crash on U.S. 41 in san Carlos Park on Friday.

FHP says around 1:43 a.m. Friday, the driver of a semi-truck was heading southeast on Tamiami Trail, proceeding through the intersection at Sanibel Boulevard on a green light, when 21-year-old Jose Sanchez drove his Honda Accord into the intersection from Sanibel Boulevard into the path of the truck.

Sanchez and his passenger, 20-year-old Chase Matters of Greenville, Pennsylvania, were thrown from the car.

Both men were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Sanchez died later Friday, and Matters remains in critical condition.

Neither were wearing seatbelts.
