FORT MYERS, Fla. — Opening statements are scheduled for Wednesday, November 20th, in the case against Mark Sievers.
Sievers is accused of hiring his best friend and another man to kill his wife, Dr. Teresa Sievers, in their Bonita Springs home back in 2015.
Sievers' longtime friend, Curtis Wright, got a plea deal in the case.
As part of that plea deal, Wright is currently serving a 25 year prison sentence.
Last month, he testified against his alleged accomplice, Jimmy Rodgers, who was convicted of second degree murder in the case.
In his testimony, Wright said Mark Sievers first floated the idea of having his wife killed while attending Wright's wedding.
Wright also testified that he and Rodgers used hammers to beat Dr. Sievers to death on a night she returned home alone.
He testified that when Dr. Sievers' saw his face, she said "why" as she was repeatedly beaten with the hammers.
She is survived by two young children she had with Mark Sievers.
Wright is expected to testify against Mark Sievers as well.
