ESTERO, Fla. -- A Southwest Florida outlet mall says their ducks are healthy and well-cared for after some recent complaints about their living conditions.
Representatives of Miromar Outlets in Estero report that Lee County Domestic Animal Services inspected their duck's facilities last month.
Their nine Pekin ducks live on the property and are a popular attraction to shoppers. The mall quotes investigator Chris Urbanski as stating that the ducks "appeared to be in good health with access to adequate shelter and clean water/food. No violations observed at this time."
The health of the ducks has come under scrutiny lately after a petition was started to free the ducks over concerns that their living quarters are near dumpsters, and their feathers were turning green.
The mall released a statement saying: "Our commitment to the safety and well-being of the ducks has been, and will continue to be, a top priority."
