LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Sections of South Lee County are still underwater Monday, and things are so bad along Island Park Road that the San Carlos Park Fire Department is rescuing people from their homes using brush trucks and boats.
As of Monday afternoon, crews report saving 106 people and 22 pets.
As evacuees were rushed back to dry land on brush trucks, Fox 4 made the long drive down Island Park Road in the bed of one of those trucks to see the flooding for ourselves.
We found submerged cars, benches and residents getting around the only way they could.
After driving several miles, in the very back of one neighborhood, we found two ladies. After helping them get on the truck, Emma Field told us how floodwaters invaded her home. “My rug in the dining room, my living room rug, both bedroom rugs, my garage.”
Water flowed through every room, because the heavy rain poured onto every street.

Believe it or not, things weren't nearly as bad just last night. “My house was not flooded when we went to bed last night. We slept in the living room and when we put our feet on the couch, on the floor it was flooded.”
The City of Fort Myers reported Monday that area around the nearby Ten Mile Canal has received over 30 inches of rain over the last four days.
