Passenger in April crash in Cape Coral dies from injuries

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - An elderly North Fort Myers man died Thursday, more than five weeks after being involved in a two-vehicle crash on Pine Island Road.

The crash happened April 2nd in front of the BJ's store on Pine Island Road near Pondella Road.

According to Cape Coral Police, 93-year-old Ralph Hicks was a passenger in an SUV involved in the crash. The 85-year-old female driver was turning left onto Pine Island Road from Hibiscus Drive and drove into the path of a westbound pickup truck.

Both occupants of the SUV were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life threatening. However, Hicks experienced complications from his injuries and passed away while in Hospice care.

The SUV's driver was cited for failure to yield right of way.

The pickup truck's driver was uninjured.
