FORT MYERS, Fla – Concern for pedestrian safety continues to grow in Lee County, after another fatal accident that happened Saturday in Bonita Springs. Following that incident, there was another pedestrian involved crash on Sunday in Fort Myers. Fox 4 crews saw at least one person taken away in an ambulance in that incident.
The data, which comes from Smart Growth America and the National Complete Streets Coalition, shows that it's a statewide problem. In Florida, the risk of dying as a pedestrian is significantly higher than in other states.
Over a 10-year span from 2008 to 2017, 13 pedestrians were killed per day, adding up nearly 50,000 deaths.
