Pedestrian seriously injured on Edgewater Drive in Port Charlotte

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Troopers are investigating a crash in Port Charlotte Thursday morning that sent a pedestrian to the hospital.

It happened at 7:40 a.m. on Edgewater Drive.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV was headed eastbound on Edgewater, approaching Cousley Drive, when it struck 62-year-old Lawrence Corrigan before going on to crash into a parked Waste Management van.

Corrigan was taken to Tampa General in serious condition.

The SUV's driver, 69-year-old Diane Ashworth of Port Charlotte, was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
