FORT MYERS, Fla. -- An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Southwest Florida on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Lee County Port Authority, a mechanical issue forced the flight to land at Southwest Florida International Airport at 4:40 p.m. The plane was originally flying out of Miami, heading to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
The Port Authority tells us the plane landed safely and taxied under its own power to the gate.
All passengers and crew are safe.
A spokesperson for American Airlines says passengers will stay in a hotel Sunday night and fly to DSW Monday morning.
They tell Fox 4 they're working to learn more about what that mechanical issue actually was.
