Police apprehend murder suspect for Fort Myers homicide last week

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Officers arrested a man Tuesday night for a murder in Fort Myers last Friday.

39-year-old Tyrese Matthews was apprehended Tuesday night by officers with the Fort Myers Police Department and U.S. Marshal Service. He is charged with 2nd degree murder and was taken to the Lee County Jail.

Last Friday morning, 24-year-old Andrew Brown, III died after his family says he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It happened at a home on DeSoto Avenue at Alderman Street. Police said someone reported Brown had a head injury around midnight, and first responders tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
