LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Three local agencies were involved in a police chase Thursday that ended in the arrest of a Fort Myers man accused of stealing a car.

It started in Cape Coral, when a Cape Coral Police officer located a reported stolen minivan parked along York Street with a white male inside, later identified as 24-year-old Corey Melone.  The officer says Melone yelled an obscenity at the him and made an offensive gesture before speeding off.

The officer began to follow but backed off due to high speeds.  Dispatch was notified of the van's location and the van was soon seen heading across the Cape Coral Bridge towards Fort Myers.

Officers in Fort Myers later continued the chase down U.S. 41, where Melone intentionally hit one of their units while fleeing, according to Fort Myers Police.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office joined the chase, which ended at Littleton Road and NE 24th Avenue when Melone crashed into another vehicle and fled on foot.

K-9 units helped locate Melone and he was taken into custody.

Melone was charged with an extensive list of crimes including DUI, aggravated battery, vehicle theft, and fleeing and eluding.
