FORT MYERS, Fla. --- Local law enforcement officers spread throughout Fort Myers on Sunday afternoon.

According to investigators, they were conducting a perimeter search at Colonial Boulevard and Winkler Avenue for what they were calling a manhunt.

"I was driving down Summerlin and I saw a police chase, and I was coming down Winkler and I saw this commotion and I was like 'woah' what's going on?" Anthony Almonte is an Uber driver and says seeing all the cop cars made him pull over to see what's going on. "I saw the news, police everywhere; I said let me take a break and see what's going on.”

Other neighbors say they were stuck trying to figure out why the helicopter had been flying around for hours.

"They've been flying around, like, all day basically."  It's only Jafet Rodriguez's second day in Southwest Florida, and he was pretty stunned to have first-hand sighting of a manhunt.  But he says he still feels safe.  "There's helicopters are going around, so I know there's security and all that."

Either way, while neighbors looked on the scene they say it brought a little entertainment to a normally very quiet neighborhood.  "People are…we nosey, we want to see what's going on," said Almonte.

Officials have not confirmed who or even how many people they are looking for. But throughout the Sunday, we've seen at least 10 cop cars and multiple K-9's searching the forest area.
