CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police have awarded a Citizen Commendable Action Coin to a man who's quick thinking on July 4th helped save somebody's life.
According to Cape Coral Police, it happened on July 4th.
Jay Halbrehder was at his parent's house when a male approached their driveway bleeding profusely from his arm.
Jay first tried stopping the bleeding with towels, but when that didn't work he used his belt as a makeshift tourniquet to reduce bleeding.
Medics who responded to the scene told police that if Jay had not applied the tourniquet, the man likely would have succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Patrick Dowdle presented Halbrehder with the coin on July 5th in recognition of his exemplary actions.
