Port Charlotte man sentenced for sales tax theft

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. --- A Port Charlotte man was sentenced to prison for sales tax theft on Thursday.

According to a press release from the State Attorney's Office, Nicholas Geroge Vuolo, 54, pled open to the court on two cases on two counts of charges of theft of sales tax, failure to file tax returns and violation of probation. 

Vuolo received a sentence of 2 years in prison and is ordered to pay $66, 817.26 to the Department of Revenue. He must also pay more than $20,000 remaining in restitution and fees from his previous case. 

According to investigators, Vuolo would charge sales tax to customers and did not file it on tax returns. He did this through a company he owned called "A Plus Auto" in Charlotte County between March 2015 and April 2017.
