Red Sox fans near and far gear up for World Series

Posted

Boston residents Paula Longden and her husband weren't going to let their vacation to Southwest Florida interrupt the World Series.

" We went out our first night, I actually asked someone who was sitting next to us, where would be a great place to watch our team?" said Paula.

Longdon and dozens of other Red Sox fans watched Game 1 of the World Series at Boston Beer Garden in Naples.

"When I first moved to Naples, the Sox won their first World Series in 86 years, in 2004," said Sean McDonough.

McDonough is excited about this year's Red Sox club, which features former FGCU lefty Chris Sale.

"I definitely think this team is unique in every aspect, it's a full team, not one real particular standout."

Even though Southwest Florida is famous for its Midwest transplants, Boston Beer Garden Manager Nick Zeto believes recent success by New England pro sports teams is brining out tons of Boston fans to his bar.

"Huge following from New England, for all sports basketball, hockey,
football."

That includes McDonough, who thinks it will be a short series, with his team taking home the trophy.

"I like the fact that we have three games in LA, nice warm climate, I think it's Sox in 5 games."

Lansdowne Street pub, with locations in Bonita Springs and Naples also cater to Boston fans.
