COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Aloria Rodriguez says it all happened so fast.

She is one of the people in Golden Gate Estates who had to evacuate as the fire came within yards of their homes on Thursday.

She told us her son rushed her out as first responders urged them to go immediately.

She said the smoke was so bad, they could barely see.

They took a backroad out of the area.

Fire officials say Aloria and her family did the right thing.

On Friday afternoon, officials said they were grateful some rain had helped them get more of a handle on the fire.

But they warned residents it was not fully controlled and advised neighbors to regularly monitor the situation by checking websites and social media updates from their local emergency agencies.
