LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A New York Times article now links the investigation into the New York terror suspect back to Fort Myers.

In this report, the FBI began to look into whether Sayfullo Saipov had personal ties to people connected to the terrorist organization ISIS after attending a wedding at the Osprey Cove apartment complex in Fort Myers in August of 2015.

Saipov is accused of killing eight people and injuring a dozen more when he intentionally drove a truck down an exercise path in Manhattan on Tuesday.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to the report, the FBI was studying someone else at the wedding as part of a terrorism investigation at the time.  Saipov attendance at the wedding brought him to the FBI’s attention.

Saipov, an immigrant from Uzbekistan, is the brother in law of the groom.

Now the wedding is a clue into Saipov's connections with the Islamic State.  The report indicates he was brought to the FBI's attention, but was not investigated at the time.

The report says it is not clear if the FBI is still investigating the person at the wedding who was under scrutiny at the time.
