Residents evacuated from Fort Myers Beach condo due to fire

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- Numerous residents of a beachfront condominium building were evacuated by fire crews Tuesday after reports of a fire in the building.

Residents at the Creciente building tell Fox 4 there was a fire in the elevator that broke out just before 12:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of Estero Boulevard, near the southern end of the island.

Several resident appeared to be treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

As of 1:45 p.m. Estero Boulevard is closed to traffic in the area.
