FORT MYERS, Fla., - There’s only one way in and one way out of one Fort Myers community and residents say it’s too dangerous.
Residents at Linsford in Fort Myers say the intersection of Winkler Avenue and Aldermans Walk Blvd needs a traffic light. Right now, there’s only a stop sign there.
“We will have cars stacked up coming into the community making it difficult to make the turn out,” said Howard Cohen, a resident. “You get a car that’s sticking out just a little, you risk getting hit by oncoming traffic.”
On top of that, residents say people often speed. And with hundreds more homes set to be built in the community and school children also crowding the intersection during peak hours, residents are fearing the worst.
“I’ve been afraid many of times because traffic is just too heavy,” Cohen said.
“Sooner or later, there’s going to be an accident. Someones going to get hurt,” said Tony Petrisch, who also lives in Linsford.
While residents say they haven’t seen a major accident at the intersection, they don’t want to wait for one to act.
So they’ve started a petition on Change.org to press the City of Fort Myers to install a stop light at the intersection.
“This is one of the worst intersections you can come through,” said James Gilyard, a Lunsford resident. “Something has to be done. A stop sign isn’t the answer. We need a stop light.”
