LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — UPDATE

Fox 4 spoke with the Florida Department of Transportation about the flooding.

FDOT says flooding started from heavy rain on Tuesday when that area received over 4 inches in short amount of time. It is a Low laying area that has historically had issues.

They believe it was a combo of those factors and the current work on the ditches to improve drainage that caused the flooding.

They already had one pump there and brought in two additional pumps to get water out to canals and ditches near SR82.

The water level went down over a foot overnight and is currently down to less than 6 inches now.

If all goes well, they are planning to have the water all cleared out today.

Once the work is done in the area possibly next week, it should help with the issues in the future

Some people Lehigh Acres are voicing their frustrations with flooding along the street, and they want something done about it.

The flooding is on Belgrave street and Belfast avenue.

Neighbors tell us flooding hasn't been this bad since Hurricane Irma, and it's causing a lot of problems.

No mail or trash pickup because trucks can't access them. One woman we spoke with says she's worried about getting her kids to school next week.
