Serious crash involving semi truck turns fatal in North Fort Myers

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- We're learning one man is dead after a serious crash involving a semi-truck and a van Monday.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. on U.S. 41 near Diplomat Parkway in North Fort Myers.

Florida Highway Patrol now says 81-year-old Jack Slosser of Fort Myers was killed when he turned into path of the semi that was heading south on U.S. 41.

The truck driver wasn't hurt, and the intersection has since reopened.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Several rescue units have been called to the scene of a serious crash on North Cleveland Avenue (U.S. 41) that has blocked all lanes of traffic.

The crash happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of N. Cleveland Avenue and Diplomat Parkway.

No details of the crash are available yet, but the Fox 4 Traffic page shows heavy backups in the area, due to all northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 41 being closed.

The crash involved a tractor trailer truck.

Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
