One dead, four injured in Marco Island crash

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. -- A Naples woman is dead and four others were injured, including three children, after a Marco Island head-on collision Monday morning.

According to Marco Island Fire Rescue, the crash happened at 7:28 a.m. on North Barfield Drive between Barbados Avenue and San Marcos Road.  That's where a plumbing company van and a sedan collided.

The car's driver, 61-year-old Catherine Jacobs of Naples, was transported to Naples Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Three young girls were also in the car at the time of the crash, ages 5, 8, and 10.  They were all taken to area hospitals in unknown conditions.

The driver of the van, 44-year-old Raul Gonzales of Marco Island, was also injured and taken to the hospital.

The cause of the crash is unknown so far, and still being investigated.
