Teen injured by gunfire in neighborhood near Mariner High School in Cape Coral

9PM UPDATE: Cape Coral police say they believed a silver Dodge Charger had something to do with the shooting.

Police say they need your help in identifying the car.

UPDATE: Police say a 17-year-old male was injured in a shooting Friday morning in Cape Coral.

They believe the shooting was a targeted incident and say the public is not in danger.

Police were called to the scene of NW 18th Avenue around 10:30 a.m.

Police have not released a description or any information about any suspects at this time, and do not have anybody in custody yet.

Anybody with information on this incident is asked to contact Cape Coral Police at 239-574-3223.

Fox 4 has spoken with a next door neighbor on the street, and they report seeing a gray Charger fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting. Police have not confirmed whether the vehicle is part of their investigation.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Mariner High School and Mariner Middle School were placed on lockdown due to a shooting in the neighborhood next to the high school Friday morning.

Sources tell Fox 4 that a teenager was shot and is being trauma alerted to the hospital.

The shooting scene is near the intersection of NW 18th Avenue and 17th Court.

Students have since been released from schools as part of early releases.

Cape Police have scheduled a press conference at 12:30 p.m. with updates.
