The South Florida Water Management District selected the contractor who will start working on the everglade's reservoir project.
They voted on it during their monthly business meeting at FGCU.
The contractor will clear vegetation and dig out the rock and mud inside the reservoir, which will later hold extra water from Lake Okeechobee during the rainy season.
By clearing the reservoir now, it will help keep construction on track, later.
The newest member of the governing board was officially sworn in.
Benjamin Butler was appointed by Governor Ron Desantis last week.
He will serve a four-year term and represent Glades, Highlands, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, and Polk Counties.
