A Lee County man is charged with assault after a scuffle with a parking attendant at the Shell Factory.

Deputies say it happened on May 1st at the Shell Factory flea market.  Brent Drake was asked by the attendant to move his vehicle.

The police report says Drake called the attendant names and kicked him.

"Brent never touched him, Brent never put his hands on him," said the suspect's girlfriend Dawn Cottrell.

According to the report, Drake was blocking people from walking around the market, and nearly ran over a woman as he was driving.  Dawn says they were blocked by the crowd.

"As we left they screamed: block the exits, so they rode up on golf carts and blocked the exits."

The report says Drake pushed the attendant down again as he was trying to leave.  That's why the crowd wanted to keep him there until deputies arrived.  Cottrell says people at the flea market incited her boyfriend.

"It was horrible, they were saying foul things to him, and just like any other person would do, they are going to say foul things back."

Cottrell says Drake bonded out of jail Wednesday.  The couple says they may take legal action against those involved in the incident.
