LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for your help tracking down a suspect who has poisoned and killed three dogs in Lehigh Acres.
Crime Stoppers says the first incident was reported on Christmas day when a witness noticed a male laying out trays of dog food near a friend's house on Leroy Avenue. Upon closer inspection, the cans of dog food in a clear liquid were left in the tins. The homeowner threw the food out and found more food near her home four days later. She threw the food out again, but her one-year-old hound mix became ill and died on Thursday, January 9th, according to Crime Stoppers.
The second confirmed incident happened on Tuesday, January 7 on Grayson Avenue. The victim said he left his five-year-old pit bull in the fenced back yard. His dog was healthy in the morning, but when the victim returned home at 3 p.m., he found the dog dead in the backyard.
Crime Stoppers says the third incident was reported on Wednesday, January 8, when a pit bull ran away from home in the neighborhood of E. 21st Street. The pit bull returned home ill and passed away. According to the family veterinarian, the dog had a high level of an unknown substance in her liver. It is suspected that the suspect may be using antifreeze to poison the animals.
Detectives describe the suspect as light skinned male, 5’8” – 5’9”, with a trimmed beard and driving a newer dark green Corvette. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
