FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Taxi companies are meant to pick people up, but one took it to a whole new level to help Sanibel recover from Hurricane Irma.
“Sometimes it takes a disaster like this to bring people together,” said Guy Schell, one of the drivers from Sanibel Taxi.
Schell and the rest of the Sanibel Taxi team decided to give back to the community and give people rides on the island for free. “All they have to is be on the island,” said Kay Klaric. “We’ll pick them, bring them back, wait for them,” she added.
Sanibel Taxi’s fleet motored around Periwinkle Way so people can get where they need to be. “Florida strong! We stick together and help each other out as much as we can,” said Paige Klaric.
Sanibel Taxi plans to keep up with the free rides until September 25th in order to give their fellow islanders more time to get back up on their feet.
