CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A 16-year-old driver was trauma alerted to a hospital Saturday morning after losing control of an SUV on a residential Cape Coral street, police say.
It happened around 11 a.m. in the 200 block of SW 10th Terrace. That's just off Nicholas Parkway east of Santa Barbara Boulevard.
According to Cape Coral Police, a 16-year-old driver of a Jeep SUV was driving east at a high speed with a 15-year-old passenger when he over-corrected at a bend in the road. The SUV's tires went off the road before cutting diagonally across the road and starting to rotate.
The SUV hit a mailbox and slid across four lawns before hitting a parked car and continuing into another mailbox.
The driver was ejected from the SUV as it rolled over and ended up 37 feet from final resting position of the vehicle. He suffered serious injuries and was flown to an area hospital.
The passenger suffered minor injuries and was also transported to a hospital.
