IMMOKALEE, Fla. -- More than 2,000 people in Immokalee on Thanksgiving were served hot meals.

It’s a special event Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church holds in the community to help low income families.

A huge crowd was drawn on Thanksgiving at the Immokalee Airport Park.

It’s the biggest group of people the event has ever seen. They serve food to low income families who can’t afford a good meal on Thanksgiving.

A line of volunteers in Immokalee were busy filling plates of food to make sure every family has a nice meal this Thanksgiving, including the Ramirez family.

They come here every year to sit together and enjoy a hot meal.

“We don’t have enough money to make our own food,” said Jacinto Ramirez.

Ramirez and his wife both work but money can be tight so coming to the lunch with their kids every year really helps.

Plus, it’s a great opportunity to have some family time.

To be together is the best thing we can do because we work every day and the kids go to school,” said Ramirez.

Organizers said they plan to hold another event next year and expect even more people to attend.
