SOUTHWEST, Fla. — Tis’ the season for shopping!
As you might be getting ready to make your online purchases during Cyber Week, we’ve got a couple tips from the Better Business Bureau for you to keep in mind.
Price check.
The bureau says dozens of online companies will tell you they have the best price. But, that can be misleading. The BBB says don’t forget that the best deal may not be the right deal.
Shop with sellers you trust on secure sites.
If you’re not familiar with a particular website, take a close look at the beginning of its url. Websites with “https://“ are secure sites, so if it’s missing that “s”, you’ll want to steer clear.
Use a credit card.
That might sound a little weird. But, it’s the protection that is key here. If you come across suspicious charges on your statement, you can challenge them through your credit card company. Debit cards do not have that same protection. You don’t want that money not to be available when it’s time to pay bills.
Take advantage of rewards and loyalty programs.
Does your card have special point offers? Could it help you save big on items from major retailers?
Understand the return policy
Online store policies could change for Cyber Monday. That’s why the BBB says read the fine print for the specific item that you’re buying. Stores might not allow returns for final sale or closeout items. Don’t forget to buy gift receipts, too!
