CAPE CORAL, Fla., -- A Cape Coral Firestone Tire and Body shop's business is booming because of the increase of flat tires. The manager of the store says it's all due to the high amount of Cape Coral construction.
“It’s great for business. I’ll admit it’s very good for business," said Rick Hanson, local Store Manager of Firestone.
Hanson says over the past couple of years he's seen the number of flat tires double.
“Most of the nails we are seeing are new, they’re not old…. With the amount of construction going on I’d have to say it’s from that.”
He says the City needs to do a better job of cleaning the streets. Fox 4 went looking for answers on the responsibilities developers have in keeping the streets clean. The team reached out to the people in charge of the Streetscape Project, a reconstruction of roads on SE 47th Terrace to add a roundabout. They provided this statement:
"The project team and its crews for the SE 47th Terrace Streetscape Project are making every effort to keep the roadway free and clear of debris. On active construction days, at the end of shift our crews sweep and clean up the roadways to ensure that cars can safely travel through the corridor. In additions with the work that our crews have been doing focusing on underground utility work, there isn't the typical construction debris that you find in commercial building construction."
Fox 4 also reached out to the City of Cape Coral. They explained they have regular street sweepers roaming the streets.
