Two charged in Cape Coral trailer theft

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police have charged two men with stealing a construction trailer in Cape Coral.

The incident happened April 19th in the area of the 3900 block of Gulfstream Parkway.

Utility trailer thefts had been reported in the area, and one victim reported that somebody had moved an excavator that was parked in front of a construction trailer, possibly to provide access to the trailer.

Later that night an officer witnessed a truck back up to the trailer to be hooked up to the trailer. Officers stopped the truck as it pulled away.

The driver, 28-year-old Adan Herrera, was arrested as he got out. The passenger, 35-year-old James Crabtree fled on foot but was later located and arrested.

Herrera was charged with Grand Theft Vehicle.

Crabtree was charged with Grand Theft Vehicle and Resisting Arrest without Violence.

Both were later transferred to Lee County Jail.
