DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol has reported two deaths in an accident on US Highway 17 in DeSoto County early this morning.
A pickup truck driven by a male was traveling south in the northbound travel lane of US Highway 17, approaching SW Skates Street.
A second pickup truck, driven by a 33 year old Cape Coral woman, was traveling north in the northbound lane of US Highway 17, just north of SW Skates Street.
The front of the first pickup truck collided with the front of the second pickup truck.
The second pickup truck was redirected before coming to final rest facing southwest in the outside northbound travel lane of US 17.
The first pickup truck was redirected by the collision and came to final rest facing northeast, partly in the outside northbound travel lane and partially within the grass median of US 17.
Both the driver of the first pickup truck and the second was pronounced deceased.
A 13, 10, and 5-year-old from the second pickup truck were transported to Tampa General Hospital.
FHP says it’s an ongoing investigation.
