Two dead, three injured in crash on State Road 70 near Arcadia

DeSOTO COUNTY, Fla. -- Two people are dead and three more including two children are in the hospital after a car crash in DeSoto County Sunday.

Florida Highway Patrol says it happened on State Road 70 near Mahon Avenue, east of Arcadia.

Troopers say around 6 p.m., the driver of an eastbound pickup truck lost control and spun into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by an SUV.

The truck’s driver, a 38-year-old man from Haverhill, Florida died at the scene.  A passenger in the truck was taken to DeSoto Memorial, where he was pronounced dead.

Their names have not been released.

Three people inside the SUV were taken to the hospital.  The driver, 27 year-old Jessica Tanner of Pensacola, is in serious condition.  7-year-old Amari Harper and 11-year-old Caylee Tanner were critically injured in the crash.
