Two people start fire at gas station in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, FLA. - A woman purchased gasoline from a Lee county gas station. She then poured it straight to the ground early Thursday morning.

Witnesses told Cape Coral Police a man arrived in a silver sedan. He pulled out a lighter and ignited a fire in between the gas pump and the trash bin at the Circle K gas station on Cape Coral Parkway.

"That would've exploded, that would've been on fire," Zack Free told 4 In Your Corner when he learned what happened at his favorite convenience store. "It's ridiculous," he added.

The witness told police the woman wore a Duffy's bar uniform. She is around 5'6", with a septum piercing and half red and black hair.

Police took photos of the surveillance footage. The man burned his feet when he started the flames. The officer was able to find the cigarette butt the male dropped.

"The have to be caught and brought in for justice," Chuck DeBono said.

DeBono is the owner of DeBono's Stop and Go in Cape Coral. He was stunned the two put so many lives at risk with the stunt they pulled.

"I've been in this business all my life and it's the first time I've heard of anybody intentionally trying to burn down a gas station," DeBono said.

He said the emergency shut off only stops an electrical malfunction. It wouldn't help in a situation like this one.

"If somebody lights the gas on fire with a match or cigarette, there's no prevention other than just get a fire extinguisher and call the fire department," said DeBono.
