CAPE CORAL, FLA — UPDATE: The jury has found Jeovanni Hechavarria guilty on all counts of Sexual Battery. The State asked that Hechavarria remain in custody and the Judge agreed.
Sentencing will be March 3rd at 3:00 PM.
A trial began Tuesday in the case against a Cape Coral nurse accused of raping a patient.
Jeovanni Hechavarria was a nurse at Cape Coral Hospital, where he’s accused of raping a female victim in 2016.
We’ve reported on this story in the past. Hechavarria allegedly told that 43-year-old patient not to tell anyone about the attack, because he knew where she lived and would do it again.
Ahead of jury selection, the defense brought up concerns that this case has been highly covered by the media.
That process did get started Tuesday.
The state did make an offer to Hechavarria, but he maintained innocence and wished to have a trial by jury.
The trial is expected to last several days.
