LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - A veteran got creative as he waits for new kidneys. Jose Rodriguez decided to put a hot pink sign on the back of his blue truck.
"I want to reach more people and get it out there," Rodriguez said. "I want to be on everyone's mind and that I need help," he added.
Rodriguez turned to the community after his doctors gave him the news. He learned that both his kidneys are failing.
"My kidneys are are zero," Rodriguez said. "It is worse and worse and now I need dialysis," he added.
Rodriguez was able to get a hold of one donor.
"My neighbor said he's willing to donate. That's one," Rodriguez said.
He turned to his friend for help. His friend installed pink lettering on the back of his Tacoma. Rodriguez's sign has received attention from potential donors.
"I have about six calls for donors," he said.
Rodriguez is also blown away by the amount of calls of support.
"It's an amazing feeling that you have people out there who willing to help," he said.
Rodriguez encourages everyone to become an organ donor in order to help those in need.
