Parents of students ion the Lee County School district will have an easier way to track their child's school bus during the 2018-2019 school year. Where's the Bus, allows parents to track the location of their child's school bus providing information like approximate distance and estimated time of arrival.
The app had previously only been available for some parents in the district. This year, Dr. Greg Adkins, superintendent of the Lee County School District says he hopes the app will help with previous complaints about bus wait time.
“It should be much better than it was last year”, he told 4 In Your Corner.
Adkins told Fox 4 that staffing problems were the main reason buses were not running on time. A shortage in drivers meant the ones who were on staff had to drive multiple routs. This led to delays in drop-offs and pick-ups, and left parents frustrated for the majority of the school year.
“We’re able to track all those buses now so when a parent calls we can literally say, you know, your bus is ten minutes away from the bus stop.”
Adkins says that he anticipates there will still be some delays, but he's hoping the app will help parents who were frustrated to find their children weren't being picked up or dropped off in a timely manner. The app is available for download for free in the Apple Store. The use, input your student's last name and id number.
