Woman accused of posing as Walmart employee to steal gift cards

Posted

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Investigators are looking for help identifying a woman they say activated and stole gift cards from a South Fort Myers store, while claiming to be an employee.

It happened on August 14th at the Walmart store on San Carlos Boulevard at Summerlin Road.

According top Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, the suspect seen pictured here proceeded to a manned register with six Visa gift cards, 7 Mega Ball tickets and other miscellaneous items.  After attempting to pay for the items, the cashier advised the woman that the transaction had been declined.

The suspect then claimed that she worked at Walmart, too, and offered to help by reaching over the counter and cashing out the transaction herself.  By doing so, the six Visa gift cards were then activated.  The suspect never actually paid for the gift cards or any of the other items fraudulently removed from the store.

The suspect is described as a black female, 30-35 years of age, who wore a pink dress and white slides at the time of the crime.  Anyone with information on the identity and whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.  Tips may also be made online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com[southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com] or by submitting a tip on the P3Tips mobile app.
