FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Only Fox 4 was in the courtroom Tuesday as a pre-trial plea took place for a former Lee County Schools employee accused of inappropriately touching a student.
Jamie Hill was a paraprofessional at Lehigh Senior High when the incident took place.
But Tuesday, the judge accepted her plea to a lesser charge of misdemeanor battery.
The school’s principal, along with students and others from the school community showed up in support of Hill, saying they don’t believe she intended to harm the student.
They say she always went to extreme lengths to help at-risk kids, and they believe that’s what happened here.
During the plea, Hill described her version of what happened, saying she only touched the student to demonstrate behavior she saw between the student and her girlfriend that she thought was inappropriate.
The judge said the victim still feels uncomfortable about what happened but was in favor of this plea.
