CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- The sheriff's office has released the identity of the woman found dead outside the jail visitation center in Punta Gorda Tuesday morning.
They say that 55-year-old Janice Ridgeway is the woman found near the waiting benches, and that she had recently been released from the jail.
Ridgeway was arrested in Port Charlotte early Monday on a Battery charge and released just past noon that day. The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office says they believe she remained on the property through the evening before being found dead by jail staff in the morning.
The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
