FORT MYERS, Fla. — World AIDS day is December 1st, but the Southwest Florida community wastes no time in spreading awareness. Local organizations hosted a free event at Clemente Park in Fort Myers Saturday.

In addition to HIV testing, they offered health and vision screenings. Attendees also enjoyed performances, a basketball shootout competition and games. the regional manager for AIDS Health Care Foundation says it's important to get tested.

World AIDS day was founded in 1988 to promote the fight against HIV, and to honor those impacted by disease. The Florida Department of Health says everyone between the ages of 13 to 64 should get tested.
