Man says 'alcohol controlled him' when he shot deputy

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) - Investigators say a man accused of shooting an Osceola County sheriff's deputy in the leg over the weekend told another deputy that "it wasn't his fault because alcohol controlled him."

Deputy John Rios was shot in the left calf while breaking up a disturbance at a Kissimmee bar. He was treated and released from a hospital later that day.

Citing an arrest report, the Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/2eHX0a2 ) reports 28-year-old Angel Manuel Lopez said after the shooting that he "wasn't sorry because he'd done nothing wrong."

Authorities say Rios tried to detain Lopez as he was leaving the bar and a struggle ensued. Lopez fired his gun during the incident.

The suspect is facing eight charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. It's unclear whether he has an attorney.
