A man snatched a purse from a woman's car at a Cape Coral gas station while her child sat in the backseat, according to Cape Coral Police.

The incident happened Friday at Murphy USA gas station in the 1600 block of Del Prado Blvd. The victim Shalee Sherman left her vehicle to pay for her gas, when a man in a car at the pump next to her grabbed her purse from the front seat.

Sherman's 9 year-old son was in the backseat of the car at the time and began to scream for help. Sherman's boyfriend Chawn Edmonson says the young boy and his mother are now afraid to be in their home.

"When she walked around to pay for the gas that's when they ran over to her car opened the door - I guess they didn't see her son in there - and tried to grab her purse."

In an attempt to retrieve her purse, Sherman grabbed the suspect's car door as he began to drive off. Edmonson tells Fox 4 the car then dragged Sherman for several feet before she could no longer hang on.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s or 30s. He drove off in a silver sedan, possibly a Nissan, with an unidentified woman and man.
