Man thrown from truck bed in Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A two-vehicle crash involving a lawn service truck Tuesday morning resulted in a trauma alert call in Deep Creek.

The crash happened at the intersection of Deep Creek Boulevard and Seasons Drive just after 10 a.m.

According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS, a pickup truck towing a lawn equipment trailer collided with an SUV. One of two men riding in the truck's bed was throw approximately 50 feet during the crash and landed on the road's shoulder.

The approximately 30-year-old man was flown to an area hospital via trauma helicopter.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

Minor fuel leaks were caused by the lawn mowers in the back of the trailer which were flipped off of the trailer.

As of 11 a.m., there was partial road blockage on Deep Creek Boulevard but Charlotte County Sheriff's department was on scene for Traffic Control.

UPDATE -- FHP reports no roadblock at the scene.

UPDATE #2 -- FHP has identified the injured man as 32-year-old Luis Carmago of Arcadia.  He was taken to Lee Memorial in serious condition.

The driver of the SUV was charged with violating the right of way at a stop intersection.
